  • The recital system of the Vedas is difficult for a common man, because there are specific system for pronouncing the words, the meters, up and down of the sound as well as hand gestures for pronunciation. This is the reason through which the tradition was preserved for thousand years. As far as the techniques of recitation is concerned, according to tradition specific emphasis should be given on Varnam (proper pronunciation), Matra (method of chanting vowels), Balam (effort placed in uttering a letter), Samam (maintenance of appropriate speed/slowness in uttering letters), Samthanam (necessity of avoiding delay in uttering letters), and Swaram (tune for Vedic chanting). As per instruction of the tradition chanting of the Vedas may be done under the supervision of a Guru (teacher).
